About the village

A working Yorkshire village

Allerston is a small rural community in Ryedale, North Yorkshire — set between the southern edge of the North York Moors and the Vale of Pickering.

Allerston is a civil parish in North Yorkshire, lying on the A170 about five miles east of Pickering, on the edge of the North York Moors. Its name is of Anglo-Saxon origin, and its layout of stone cottages and farmsteads reflects generations of Yorkshire village life.

Today, Allerston is home to a mix of long-standing farming families, retired residents and newcomers drawn by the setting. Agriculture continues to shape the surrounding fields, and the pace of life remains unhurried.

The community is served by a village hall, a public house and the joint Allerston & Wilton Parish Council, with strong ties to neighbouring Thornton-le-Dale, Ebberston, Pickering and Scarborough.
